BRUGES DISCUSSION LIST GUIDELINES

The below list should be considered just that - guidelines. Think of them as rules of the road in order to make the list as useful as possible for everyone.

  • Bruges and Environs Only. The list is exclusively for discussion about Bruges and Environs. Please don't send chain mail, non-related jokes or even virus warnings. Since the list is configured to delete all attachments, you can't get a virus through the messages.
  • Promotion of Your Business, Land for Sale or other Commercial Venture is Limited to www.brugesinfo.com Customers. It is inexpensive to become a customer, especially considering the benefits. Please contact us now to learn how.
  • Send an Intro. After joining, please send along an introduction telling the other members who you are and what you would like to learn or offer about Bruges and Environs.
  • Plain Text Messages. If you know how, turn off HTML messages. This means all backgrounds, bolding, colors, etc. are not inserted. Some Members use plain text email programs and only see gobbly gook instead of your intended message.
  • Be Considerate of Others. Consider the reactions of others before sending a message with profanity, prejudicial remarks or anything outside the realm of what would be acceptable in a public forum. This is a place to exchange information among friends.
  • Trim Previous Messages. When replying to a message, remove all but the most relevant parts. This is particularly important if you are replying to the digest version.
  • DON'T USE ALL UPPER CASE. ON THE INTERNET IT IS TAKEN AS YELLING AND CAN BE ANNOYING TO READ.
Use a Clear Subject. When we have a high volume of messages, it makes them easier to skim. It is especially important to put in a subject if you are on the digest version. "Bruges digest, Vol 1 #95 - 18 msgs" is not very descriptive.
  • Don't Post Thank You's and Me Too's to the List. Please send these types of messages directly to the person. There's no reason everyone should read them.
  • Don't Flame other Members. This goes for both on or off list. If you have a problem with a member please email the list moderator at BrugesInfo.com
  • Don't Annoy the Moderator. This list is a volunteer effort and much time has been spent on it. High maintenance persons who are using the list to work out personal issues will be unsubscribed.
  • Send Suggestions. If you have any suggestions or problems with the list, please send the moderator a message at BrugesInfo.com
  • Have Fun!

Also, if you would like to access even more features of the list like reading messages on the web, seeing archives, polls, calendar, using the chat, etc., here are the steps if you are not already a member of Yahoo and don't have a Yahoo ID. This is a one time process. After that, you can enter your ID and password and go right into that section.

  • Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups and click on "Sign me up."
  • Fill in the form, making up an ID (BobWilliams, etc.) and for your alternate email, put in the email address you are signed up with on the Bruges Belgium Discussion List.
  • After you finish the form, you will be redirected to a page with your email and ID. Click on "Continue to Yahoo Groups"
  • At the top of the next page click on "Already a member of Yahoo! Groups? Use our Account Wizard to find your subscriptions!"
  • On the page that comes up, enter your email and password.
  • A page will come up with a congratulations, "You've linked your groups..." Click on "View my Groups". You are finished. In the future, you can visit http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups enter your ID and password (hint: click on save password to never have to enter it) and be right in the Bruges Belgium Discussion List area.

If you don't want to deal with any of this, you can just send mail to bruges-belgium@yahoogroups.com to send mail to the list. You will receive mail automatically. If you have any questions, please let us know.
