BRUGES 2012
PAGEANT OF THE GOLDEN TREE
Sunday 19 August & Sunday 26 August 2012

Since 1958 this pageant is colouring the streets of bruges, every five years in commemoration of the festivities in 1468 on the occasion of the wedding of Charles The Bold, Count of Flanders and Duke of Burgundy with the English Princess Margareth of York.
It was the last glorious event before the inevitable downfall of Bruges wealth. When the city was chosen as cultural capital of Europe in 2002 the pageant was entirely changed with special attention to the battle of the municipal organizations as guilds and corporations against the godly founded authority of ruling sovereigns.
Also the age-old legend of the golden tree is playing a major role in this colorful mass event with giants and floats.
