BRUGES CHOCO-LATÉ FESTIVAL
Choco-Laté,
the Bruges Chocolate Festival took place on Friday the 28th of April
up to Monday the 1st of May. On these days you could follow a chocolate
track through the city. The purpose of the festival was to put the
Belgian chocolate as well as our country in general on the international
map of chocolate fairs.
In the old hospital of St-Jan, a chocolate fair took place, where
dozens of artisanal and well-known chocolatiers were present.
This fair is the Mekka for chocolatelovers, at almost every stand
you could taste a range of flavours. With great designs the event
was a delight for both eyes and papillae!
The fair offered a great diversity of chocolate-related activities:
you could see chocolate sculptors, painters and bodypainters their
remarkable and tasteful brio. There was even a chocolate tailor
who designed chocolate dresses.
The
second stop of the track, the chocolate museum, immerses the visitor
in the 2500 year old history of chocolate. It has a unique collection
of more than thousand objects, telling more about the origin and
evolution of chocolate. In addition the museum also shows how chocolate
is made, with special attention to the varied raw materials and
the production process in the past and present.
The third stop of the track showed an exhibition concerning the
history of chocolate drinks from the Maya's up to the present.
A
minus point was perhaps the success of the festival, which resulted
from time to time to a very crowded as a result of which it sometimes
what plays the drums were and much information went lost.
From the organizers we heard that we can look forward to a second
edition next year. We are already very much looking forward to it,
since this years edition sure was to our taste!
